I really love this song however I have to say it is so sad! Based on the story of Robert Hawkins a teenager who went into a mall and shot nine people! I just can't believe that people feel they have no where to turn and this is their peace! So Sad! I like the beat of the song and it's well put together but I have to say knowing the meaning I will be listening with a heavy heart!

Why am I a Vegetarian?

Some of my friends and family are taken aback when I mention (usually while they are offering a meat dish!) that I am vegetarian (or flexitarian but no one knows what that means even my spell check doesn't recognize it!). I wasn't a huge carnivore before but meal life definitely revolved around meat. They ask "why?" My answer in reality is that I don't have one specific explanation, it just kinda happened. Vegetarian to me didn't start by just eliminating meat! It was more of an attempt to eat healthy, buy local and be more conscious of what I was eating/feeding my family and where it was coming from. On my journey I have become aware of some of the horrendous trick of the trade food manufacturers use to make their product cheap and appealing to consumers. I have tried to eat less processed foods which are always altered (and not to your benefit) and to stay away from artificially altered animals products like eggs and meat. Honestly I am not even getting into ethically what happens to these animals that sacrifice for us to provide food, that's a whole other blog post!! I am going to put a link to an article you can read!!

By no means do I think we should all be vegetarian but I do think we should all know what it is they are feeding us and making us pay for! My favorite time of year has started, U pick season! I love going out and picking our own produce, there is such a thrill in bringing home something you harvested yourself. Not to mention the fun with my family and the fact that the taste of fresh produce is second to none!

My family had to tell me to quit my fanatical picking since it really wasn't long before we had two pints full of strawberries. It was a warm day but overcast which actually worked in our favor so we weren't sweating in the hot sun. We had a lot of fun trying to find the biggest record breaking strawberry and I think that the winner was my oldest with the bright red berry in her palm!

Of course our reward for being such great strawberry pickers! Unfortunately dairy doesn't agree with me in my pregnancy but I have to recommend their samosas since they were absolutely scrumptious! They have an amazing market full of local produce and a delectable selection of homemade bakery goodies.

The next morning I think I made the best waffles we have ever had thanks to some of the most delicious strawberries!

Better get out there and find your local U picks for some really great fun and delicious memories!

Well I am not sure what it is like for everyone at this time of year but I am wishing that spring would finally be official! We have been blanketed in some surprise snow and it's got me searching for some cozy comforts to fend off the chills. I was at the farmer's market in Victoria last weekend for the first time! I was pleasantly surprised to see so many great local artisans. There was handmade local goat cheese, handmade italian bread, fresh winter produce and fabulously delicious jams.

We have been stuffing our selves with our delicious find and I thought I could share some of them with you!

Salt Spring Island Cheese

We had Olive Tapanade Goat Cheese and Garlic Goat Cheese!
It was just as delicious as the picture on fresh baked bread! Mmmm!

Handmade Artisan Preserves
We had Rocking Raspberry Jam and Strawberry Vanilla Bean Jam! So Good!

To my surprise there was a permanent shop on the outskirts of the market that drew me in with it's scrumptious smells wafting out the door! I knew I had been there before at a kiosk on the harbor in Victoria..... Wanna Waffle! As a Canadian you may have heard there amazing story of how they came to be from a small one man dream to a Dragon's Den enterprise! I had a taste of them when they were only one tiny little cart making glorious golden waffles for tourists and they instantly had me hooked! Now they have a store that I will surely be visiting every time I go to the market!

My grandfather was in the navy in WWII and physically sacrificed his health for the war of that era. Well you may have noticed some slight changes to my blog and are wondering

I have decided, due to not enough time in a day to part with my much loved Etsy shop. Hollyhock Alpacas Spotlight & Giveaway

I have to say that I really love what this shop practices in lifestyle and in business! Hollyhock Alpacas is a shop that really embraces an eco friendly way of living and selling their wares. The shop is owned by Teresa, a wonderful women who, with her husband has left the cold corporate world and begun a business raising and breeding alpacas. She sells their sheared alpaca fiber in many forms in her shop. The fiber is raw or spun, natural or dyed and then used to create some of her beautiful, soft warm handmade clothing.
Hollyhock Alpacas operates as organically as possible with a valiant effort trying to make a small carbon footprint on the world. The dyes used on the fiber are created from indigo, black walnut husks, goldenrod and marigold flowers picked or grown by Teresa which give the fiber a gorgeous natural hue. At home Teresa uses her alpaca manure for her garden, left over fiber for bird nesting material and uses a local mini mill specializing in alpaca fiber for processing.

I just absolute love that Teresa and her shop stand for a way of life that we all need to be more connected with. She is an example of how to change your life for the good of all of our futures and to be completely fulfilled on a personal level while doing it. Obviously not everyone is able to drastically change their life which may depend on so many variables but at the very least we can support an individual who is making a difference and by buying in her shop we are all a part of what Teresa is doing to change our planet!

The Alpaca is a domesticated species of animal that resembles a small Llama. Alpacas were specifically bred thousands of years ago for their fiber in South America and have since come to be a part of western culture's small local farm community. Alpaca fleece is a lustrous and silky material similar to sheep's wool. The material is warm, not prickly and contains no lanolin making the fiber and any clothing made from it hypo allergenic and naturally water resistant.

Hollyhock Alpacas has soft beautiful fiber for sale and most of their product for raw or spun fiber are abundant in the spring. However Teresa's fabulous handmade clothing can be found year round. She has a variety of warm and woolies found in shop and I for one could use some extra warmth for my cold and chilly spring in Victoria this season.

This fiber in roving and yarn form is from two sibling alpacas found on Teresa's farm. It is very soft and brown with a reddish undertone. If you like to knit you should consider trying alpaca yarn and you will be converted!

This spotlight I am introducing to you an Etsy shop called Kaboogie. I love what this shop is built on. How it cares about the environment and it's products not only make a difference but actually start at our kids which is where it really counts. These Funky baby and kids shoes are made from re-purposed, garment weight suede & leathers. The leather and suede make them durable quality and additionally keeps the material useful by giving it a second chance and out of our landfills. These chic shoes stand for positive change and creative aspirations and hopefully our kids can say the same one day about what we all did to help our environment!

The reason why this style of shoes can be seen all over the baby market is because it really is practical. The soft soles have been shown to give much needed grip while walking and not interfere with the development of feet. My girls so many times tripped over the chunkiness of their hard soled runners and need a good grip because to this day they still slip on everything! I have actually used these shoes in so many applications. Definitely as baby shoe wear when you don't need the hard sole, slippers and now my girls no longer toddlers, still use them in dance class! Kaboogie offers them in such a cute contemporary design with a substantial variety of sizes and styles.

My girls would love these shoes, from their velvety suede right down to the cute little pink flower button detail! I really like the softness of the suede which makes them comfy and casual with the neutral tan color allowing them to wear the shoes with so many different outfits.

Wow, do you not love these? honestly they have to start making them in adult size too because I want a pair for myself! I love the long alternative choice of boot which is not only practical in colder times, keeping those little ankles warm but also oh so stylish! The beautifully integrated hook and loop straps make these boots easy for little ones to put on too and all moms know how much independence is a handy tool.

This shop is owned and created by a mom with first hand experience of how important it is to teach children about having a positive footprint in life. Her passionate actions in her shop can speak louder than words to her "Red Squadron", six energetic red headed children who will one day make their contributions to our planet. Because of this example to her children and shoppers I can't help but be compelled to do the same and demand recycled alternatives to a giant booming market of baby wares! Over at Etsy it is Euro-week and in the spirit of promoting the global handmade community, we thought we would be more worldly here as well! I am happy to bring you this shop called Terrabella from Nicaragua. To me this is a far off place and I find it fascinating to learn of people like myself running Etsy shops and how it works for them in their community.

Terrabella uses sustainable and ethical materials from Central America. The natural look and feel of her products, made from materials unique to Nicaragua, make this shop undeniably the place to find distinct home decor and eye -catching- sure -to- get you- compliments jewelry!

Terrabella is owned by a female artisan who turns to nature to create her products. You can spot the influences of Nicaragua in the natural materials used to create her products. Terrabella had such a compelling handmade story worth exploring so we asked her to tell us about crafting in Central America and here is what she had to say:

"Terrabella" means "beautiful land" and perfectly describes the setting in which I live. Our country has different natural resources in the different regions. We have volcanoes, fresh water lakes and lagoons, beaches in the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean, mountains, and rivers. Each small picturesque town has its own traditions and folklore.

Terrabella's owner is a third generation jeweler. Her husband owns a carpentry shop and uses large pieces of sustainable wood. Being the crafter that she is, she found a way to recycle his leftover pieces of wood to create like her keepsake boxes, carved bowls, and wooden bangles and earrings.

I have always been fascinated by the different regions and the ingenuity of the people in each region and found ways to help sustain and support individual families. The crocodile leather is bartered from a family that lives in the lake region where crocodiles are sustainably farmed and are used as their main source of meat. I give them bangles for their artistic creations and they give me small amounts leather in return.

The baskets are elaborated in the northern region of the country where the lower temperature and higher altitude provides pine trees that do not exist in any other region. Since my grandmother is from this region and we are constantly traveling there, I always purchase whatever amount of baskets this one particular family has made and then I embellish them with natural seeds, metals, and fibers. 

I think these bracelet have such a natural beauty and rich earthy color tones. They are adaptable to any occasion for wearing them because of their wooden element and the loveliness of the quality will surely having people wondering where you have found it.

I love all these earrings and their funky, sexy appeal! I can see all the Nicaraguan ladies on the beach with their hair up and some gorgeous earthy earrings and I want to do that too! It's now my number one beach accessory this year!

Pineapples and Cream Recipe

Delicious food is another weakness of mine and I think I may not be alone in that! A girlfriend of mine has passed on this scrumptious recipe that makes you want to lock yourself in the closet and eat the whole dish!

Pineapples and Cream

CRUST
1/2c Butter Melted
2c Graham Wafer Crumbs
1/3c Organic Brown Sugar

Combine and press all ingredients except 1/2c into pan

PINEAPPLE FILLING
1 3/4c of Crushed Pineapple (take a fresh pineapple and crush sliced up pieces in food processor)
1/4c Organic White Sugar
2tbsp Organic Cornstarch

Drain pineapple (wire mesh strainer is best) but save the juice and add water to the juice to make 2c..add the sugar and cornstarch. Boil in a pot until thickened. Cool, then add drained pineapple back in. Put aside.

CREAM
12oz Cream Cheese (pack and a half) but I use two packs
1c Organic White Sugar
2c Whipping Cream

Beat whipping cream until it thickens and set aside. Beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Fold in whipped cream.

Put 1/2 cream cheese mixture on top of the crust then all of the pineapple filling. Place the remaining cream cheese on top. Then sprinkle remaining graham crumbs on top.
Refrigerate for around an hour and devour!

I am bringing to you a great shop called Revival Vintage Design. They are what I look for in home decor and great gifts, they have originality, beautiful quality and you can feel good about your purchase because they are eco friendly. The shop owner, a wonderful mother of teenage girls finds beautiful, striking vintage material that has been cast aside and finds a purpose once again for material that shouldn't be abandoned. The material have caught her eye with bold colors, whimsical and classic designs and been transformed into stunning accent pillows, adorable children's animals and accessories.

These are a few examples of the outstanding pillows she creates. I love that the material is not only unique because it is made by an artisan but also unique because the material is no longer in production. Pillows make such a great statement of who you are and how you feel in your home and I think these can easily make a statement but also speak loudly about caring for our environment.
I just fell in love with these cute and cuddly animals. I enjoy that they represent a feeling instantly because of their spirited materials rather than being a typical reproduction character form. They can double as a friend for your child and an accessory in their room so that's a win for mom and child! They are sure to be a very unique treasure.

Revival Vintage Design has also designed ipod/iphone/camera cases. I think it's agreat way to individualize your phone, ipod or camera. When you can go to someone's house now and have to thoroughly check which identical phone is yours sitting on the table this won't happen with a unique case. What better way to make a personal statement than on the accessory to our lives that are always with us in plain sight!

These lovely little elephants are filled with organic lavender and flax seeds and are pretty enough to be left out anywhere to add scent in a room. You can do the same with these gorgeous pachyderms that commercial industry tries to get you to do with chemicals. I don't even need to be convinced about that one, elephants in a room are the way to go but this time you can feel free to brag about them!

I applaud anyone trying to make an impact in being environmentally friendly and the brilliant ways of reusing material that we no longer thought was viable. These creations are not only gorgeous but are a way for someone who feels they don't play a role in the wide spread environmental crusade to play their part and make a difference! I have had the pleasure of visiting this great Etsy shop and felt like it left me in good spirits just to look at the collection of delightful jewelry. All of kelly's designs have a positive soulful vibe. Her inspiration seems to come from meaningful thoughts, important family connections and her own passion for art.

Kelly has beautiful hand stamped sterling silver charm necklaces that not only make an emotional statement but a fashion statement as well! There is a lovely variety of different shapes and jeweled embellishments to chose from and she has momentous words of inspiration on each piece. If you would like your own unique words of wisdom write her a message in her shop. I think the sterling silver makes these pieces extremely versatile for all different occasions and I would be tempted to wear them as an everyday accessory.

These earring caught my eye as I have a fondness for pearls. These are pink hued fresh water pearls dangling from sterling silver and I think quite a compliment to a gorgeous outfit. These will definitely bring out the sparkle and shine!

Like the pearls these have a beautiful dangling look to them. Gorgeous orange diamond cut genuine carnelian roundels with red aurora borealis swarovski crystals make them very unique and eye catching!

For me this is definitely one of my favorites! I love my kids and to be able to have their adorable smiles as a wearable keepsake is special to me. This silver bracelet is made custom with your own photos and would make a great gift for someone important to you!

Christine Jones Photography is a collection of pictures she has taken herself as a discovering photographer and I think that she is starting off with the bar extremely high! She is a mother of three energetic boys and the energy she has herself translates into her photos. They are vibrant and poetic art that I would love to have displayed in my home. She sells them in a variety of forms: fine art prints, photo cards, glass pendants and bookmarks. You can also find more of her work on Flickr and if you see something you like she is always open to custom requests.

I have Displayed a few of selections of Christine's photography and I think they speak for themselves. I am in awe of the Jaw dropping beauty found within her photos.

The levels of viewing this flower is absolutely gorgeous. I love that it is so vivid and three dimensional. Pink is a hot color in home fashion right now and I love the fact that this is not going to be found in your neighbors home. Any of her fine art prints would look lovely matted and framed.

I have my eye on these three photos, they are sold separately but I think my brother in law would love this combination. They are raw and striped down but so beautiful that way and represent to me a feeling of homecoming, a place we always know and recognize where we came from.
I love them and secretly hope to pull my brother in law's name for Christmas this year! Christine has a brilliant talent and she can even make a gas pump look gorgeous!

I have great things to say about this shop in Etsy. The shop's name is Val Vanias Art and the pieces in shop really are works of art. I love the colors and use of vintage looking metal. This artisan loves to make unique and individual jewelry and leaves every piece with its own impression. Her jewelry to me speaks with passion of love and life! You'll have to see for yourself.

Her butterflies are very beautiful! They have a delicate feminine style but the colors make them stand out. They are all exquisitely hand painted and come with dainty antique brass chains with Czech fire polished faceted rondelles. The great thing is I could see how they can be very versatile jewelry, they can be casual or formal and look amazing!

I would have to say that this is my favorite piece in her shop. To me it seems like a piece that has a story, it speaks of spring , life , love and devotion. This pendant has striking pink eye glass beads and is hand twisted with silver plated wire. As a bonus a matching wire wrap bracelet comes with the pendant. This would be great for an up and coming gift for Valentine's. Come to think of it I may send hints to my husband!

I remember as a girl having a locket from my grandparents and really treasuring it. I love the way this one is done with a colorful mosaic design and is a beautiful to look at. This is hand painted with Czech fire polished beads and when you view it closely you'll see the intricate painted work that goes into it. I think this could be a piece to pass down with pictures of loved ones and what better way to remember them really!

I really like the simplicity of these earrings. With spring around the corner I think a flower is very appropriate and the colors are bright and cheerful. These are a match for the butterflies and together would make a fabulous complimentary set.

Demure Artistic Designs is an Etsy shop that offers a bit of everything for every one. It is owned by an artisan who enjoys exploring in the many different mediums to create items for her shop. She creates with passion and loves all the pieces she has created. I have selected a few items that caught my eye but you'll have to go browse to take in all it has to offer!

I love this bracelet and the work that goes into creating it is quite amazing. It is made from sterling silver rings hand cut, coiled and linked together. Very original and sure to catch some curious admiration.

I think the idea for these intricate little pendants is really brilliant! These are called message in a bottle and come in many variations with a personal little message inside to give to someone special. Her inspiration actually came from one she recieved from her sister and personally felt touched by it! I think that speaks highly of how well they work. I have so many ideas that these could be for, it's inspiring. A proposal, a wedding favor, encouragement or even just an all important I love you to name a few! A few simple tips to reduce waste and save money when packing those presents for shipping this season:

~ Look for the smallest box possible with minimal room on all sides. Try reusing boxes from store bought packages, rather than buying a new one! To get rid of the writing and labels on the outside, open the bottom and slit the side along one corner; turn the box inside out, then tape the open side and bottom. Voila new box!

~ Make your own waste free filler!! Run shopping bags through a strip cut shredder to make long cushioning strips for packing. You can also try calendar pages because chances are you've got the new one going already and heavy stock mail order catalogs or flyers which are littering your paper and mail box this holiday season!

~ If all your presents being shipped are going to the same city to relatives try to ship all your packages to the host of Christmas this year and that way they will all be there when the guests arrive. Bonus... Less chance of peeking!

~ Try to buy a gift wrap made from recycled paper and if you can't find any out there in the store you can check online at www.shopecosaurus.com

In doing my spotlight I am discovering a whole variety of amazing shops across the world that have the same beautiful material and passionate creators that I have found locally. There is still a person behind the scenes loving what they make and putting it out there for the world to enjoy. It makes me feel special to be a part of something so wholesome and so vast.

In saying this I have found a great shop full of classic jewelry that can be worn with everything! Pearl @ Play is based in Singapore and can be found on Etsy. Pearl has been crafting since she was young and has used that experience to make some fabulous treasures in her shop.

If you're like me you don't have a huge range of clothes and jewelry that you can pick from. I personally have a simple collection that I draw upon every time I get dressed. I look for pieces when I shop that will compliment multiple items and finish my look. Her pieces are quintessential and have a noticeable creative design.

I love the textured metal of this necklace and it's uneven form. The crescent moon design is very feminine and flattering. The gold is brilliant and a beautiful metal that can easily compliment whatever look you are going for.

I have a huge admiration of anyone who can use metal in its rawest form and make absolutely beautiful creations such as this. This piece is made from 13 beads—7 purple-blue beads, and 6 teal colored beads. All of the beads are covered in a fine glitter before they are polished.

The beads are strung on two sparkly white ribbons to be tied in a small bow or a knot. The ends of the ribbons are heat treated to prevent fraying.

Her jewelry has a very modern flair and her colors are very immediately appealing for any fashionable wardrobe. Actually I think her jewelry can make a wardrobe fashionable for that matter!

This stylish artisan is a women named Eva living in Melbourne, Australia. She is a wife and mother, artist and animal lover. She has a great eye and knack for making funky jewelry which she has discovered and is pursuing passionately.

Some of my absolutely favorite pieces are her fabric pendants. I have a big weak spot for fabric patterns and I love the colors and design found on the simple button form. An understated design that speaks boldly that it needs to be noticed! The nice thing about these is that you can wear them on many different occasions and the fact that they can even be everyday pieces make them a huge bonus.

You can also find fabric buttons hair clips to match the pendant making a fabulous matching set. Her earrings seem so delicate and have an elegant manor but their colors seem to dazzle. I love that some of the pieces seem to have a little romance: the He Loves Me , He Loves Me Not and the Bird In The Cage necklace. There is a diversity of different metal patinas used in the jewelry, that really complements each piece. Gigglebug Baby Spotlight

I have recently had the pleasure of being able to purchase from Gigglebug Baby. I dealt with the shop owner Karen and I can tell you she is as great to deal with as it is to receive her wonderful creations in the mail. Gigglebug brings to you specialty gifts for babies, toddlers & moms. This Mom has developed a great shop and has the experience with four kids of her own to know what counts when buying something for your baby or one that you care about!

Sweet treats baby is a special line found at Gigglebug. I love how these look and I was really impressed with the quality of material like the onesies, blankets and washcloths used to make the cakes and cupcakes. It is so cute that it is packaged up in a box as if delivered by the bakery!

There are gorgeous colors for boys or girls and she can do custom orders. I think if I was hosting a baby shower I would love to coordinate the colors with gifts (I have a party planning addiction! My poor kids!). Not only a great thing for "mommy to be" to take home but quite the accents at the party!

Gigglebug carries fabulous Snugglies and I am delighted to see the very funky cuddly fabric they are made with. I would have to say my favorite is Olivia and what a classy little blanket for your little one to carry around.

I have had personal experience as my daughter has had a Snugglie since she was three months old. She latched on to it as I passed it to her and hasn't let it out of her sight yet, she is two. My only tip is to buy two and save one as a replacement because if it is ever lost the world will end and nothing can replace it! We have had some close calls!

There are Candied Onesies, Lollipops and la piece de resistance are the Deluxe Diaper Cakes. They look like they are a lot of work and have a lot to offer. These can be done custom and I think a big wow factor as a gift! The great thing is how useful they really are. Made from toys, diapers, pacifiers, spoons and washcloths just to name a few.

When I enter this shop I am thrilled to see all the innovative items that paper acorn has available. If you are an Etsy shop owner, a mom or even just a little like me then to see all the fabulous items that make decorating or packaging so gorgeous and appealing your heart skips a beat. Starless Spotlight

This talented artisan uses polymer clay to fabricate some very colorful, extraordinary creations. Her distinguished "filigree" style is not easily duplicated or found anywhere else. She has been working with clay since she was very young and has fun bringing to life pieces people can enjoy. All her designs have a funky flair and are catching eye pieces where ever they may be found.

Japanese Koi fish have been around since the 18th century and often a feature in an elaborate garden landscape as also found in Starless designs. Koi have been known to bring good luck to its proprietor, something I am always happy to have with me. I love the swirls of the water garden and the fish seem to be swimming in their elegant poses.

Both these pendants have my favorite color of Koi and I love the addition of the little pink lily flowers. In Japan Koi are symbols of love and friendship. I think this jewelry is not only original but symbolizes all things that I want to surround myself with.

I have two young girls who would go gaga over this cutest little piggy bank! My experience with piggy bank is that you can only find plain traditional designs well not in this case. It is just popping with color and the "filigree" pattern makes it a funky little money collector.

My overall feeling of the jewelry in this shop is a chic modern traditional design. I really enjoy how all her pieces are stylish, elegant and eye catching color. When wearing these pieces it would be impossible to not be a beautiful woman!

The beautiful woman who has created this shop in hopes of sharing her love of jewelry and the making of it, is nicknamed Zush hence the shop title! It just sounds great saying it a few times even! She is a happily married mother of one living in Brisbane, Australia. Like most Moms with daughters hopes to pass on her passion and share in those special family moments. She uses only the finest quality in material such as sterling silver, swarovski crystal and freshwater pearls. This is quite apparent in her pieces and is what really draws me to her shop.

This gorgeous brightly colored necklace uses an absolutely stunning circle of turquoise and the attention to detail is marvelous! Little Jumping Beans Review

Fashionable loving parents need to come visit Little Jumping Bean's shop! They have all sort of baby gear that can help, style and entertain your little one.

I myself have bought the soft soled baby shoes that promote development for babies feet before. I have to say I was unfortunate in not knowing about this shop sooner and didn't have the great designs and prices to choose from for my own two girls. If only someone had told me sooner!! They have a teeny tiny size but bold with flair. My fave would have to be pea pod, I love green and the design is so stylish! Or oh my goodness a pair done in damask, you know your baby group mom's will be all over those ones!

In case you didn't know...Podiatrists recommend that babies learn to walk barefoot for their feet to develop naturally. My girls feet tend to get a little chilly especially in winter time and I wasn't comfortable just letting them walk all over dirty situations either. Soft soled shoes allow children to feel and grip the ground which is good for for muscle development and you don't have to worry about the constant hard clumsy falls, that happen in stiff heavy shoes. My girls loved their shoes and when they were beyond using them as walking shoes they made awesome slippers, they actually wore them till they were three. Now that's an investment!

I have also found over sized receiving blankets. Make yourself smile with magnets from Laughing Fridge Art Magnets Shop on Etsy. My Daughter and I were scrolling through the sensational magnets in shop and she commented to me "Mommy they are all happy!" and she's right. They are a collection of imaginative pieces of art that can't help but bring those corners of your mouth round to a full on smile! The name of their shop says it all!

My fridge is a collection of happy moments, in picture form, drawings from my kids and the daily event or grocery lists. However I am a fan of style in my home so I don't want just anything to hang my bits and pieces. I think these magnet are great, they are art to compliment your fridge and not just the advertising magnet from the latest dentist you've been visiting! You know you've had too many of those at one point!!

The creators of this shop and the magnets are a wonderful couple John and Donna Mclean both artists in their own right and they lend a great deal of personality to each individual piece. They make a terrific team as I'm sure they are both critics and inspiration for each other. The magnets are handmade through various steps and care and attention go into the smallest of details. Signed, numbered and dated so you can be reminded of their Importance to their creators and now to you!

When reviewing this shop I had a hard time not putting up all their pictures because each and every one of these magnets are so delightful! This shop even has an oops section with discounts and many great works of art have been created out of oops! They're a great one of a kind gift that invoke happy thoughts and cute comments. I can already think of some people on my list who would love them not to mention myself and my kids!

Don't forget!! Halloween is fast approaching and there are a couple holiday inspired magnets in shop as well. For all you early Christmas shopping enthusiasts, the shop has offered to make any magnets into ornaments. What a good idea, just contact them to let them know.

DIY Eco Beads

We often receive messages asking how we made our eco-jewelry, which has prompted us to write this tutorial! As with most craft projects, there are various ways to make these beads but here are the steps that work best for us.

Here is the list of materials you will need:

Newspaper/junk mail
Craft glue (the white kind) or carpenter’s glue (even though it’s yellow it dries clear)
An old pot
Sandpaper
Acrylic paint
Ribbon or string
Spray glossy (matte or glossy)

1. First take at least half of a newspaper and shred it into pieces. You can rip the pages into chunks or tear them into strips. Ensure the chunks are small enough that they will break down. If you want to make really large beads you will need more paper.

2. Boil water in an old pot (it will get stained). Put the shredded newspaper into water. Stir occasionally and let the newspaper sit in the water for at least an hour so that it can break down.

3. Once the paper is broken down strain out as much water as you can. I use my hands to squeeze out the water (be careful not to burn yourself).

4. Now is the fun part! Squeeze lots of glue into the pot of strained paper and work it into the paper with your hands. You need enough glue that the paper sticks together when you roll it into a ball. Be generous with the glue. You will now have a gluey-papery mess (this is a good mess!).

5. Roll the mixture into beads or shape them into squares (the possibilities are endless). It helps if you keep one palm still while rolling with the other so that the beads don’t break apart. If you find they are breaking apart no matter what you do, you may need more glue.

6. The beads will take at least 3 days to dry. Make sure they are dried completely before you drill them or you will end up with a crumbled mess (trust me!). Shake the beads every few hours for a few days so that they don’t end up with a flat side.

7. Once the beads are dry drill holes into them. Depending on how you want to string them you can vary the size of the holes.

8. Sand the beads for the texture you desire.

9. Paint the beads however you like. I use acrylic paint which you can pick up anywhere and it comes in loads of different colors.

10. After the beads dry you can spray them with matte or glossy craft polish for a nice shine and a protective finish.

11. String your beads! Be creative! And walllllaaaaaa!

Getting to Know Your Food!!

Well I wanted to do a little different of a post today. I am really into eating fresh local when I can and I truly believe that the quality of produce, meat and dairy is second to none! I don't think I need to rant about how much better local fresh ingredients are because I think we all have been hearing it for quite some time now. There is no environmental side effects like the consuming of fossil fuels to reach shipping destinations (which I might add can be very long distances) and you are helping support a local farmer and family! I highly support that! Okay, okay so a little rant! In trying to find local produce I find some areas are more difficult than others however most towns have a local baker or butcher. They are a great choice to find food made with love and you can choose to go a step further if you want and then ask them where they get thier ingredients and product. Also how it might be raised, if it is?!

Recently my two young girls,husband and I spent an afternoon at a local U pick blueberry farm and it was so much fun! We got to enjoy the beautiful sunny day and eat blueberries straight from the bushes (oops I don't think we were supposed too!:) My girls reveled in being able to bring home what they picked and we all enjoyed whipped cream and blueberries for dessert. I have to say you really don't realize what bland mush of a blueberry shell you may have been eating from the grocery store because the taste from these little blue bombshells were superb!

This link is for finding fresh, locally grown and sustainably produced food in canada and the US. Their belief is "Eat well everywhere" and have a great little gadget that you can input where you are traveling from and to, and it will let you know of all sorts of places to buy your food along the way. I love this! You can search by other by means too and even as close as your city. Unfortunately for me I had trouble find a lot of places listed in BC, Canada but I looked up all other provinces and was able to find a great list of sources.

I really feel a sense of empowerment making the choices of what we eat in our family. I'm not one to sit back and let someone else tell me what's good for me, so I say "I'll decide" and be better for it! Not to mention my U pick was a fun way to spend time with my family an teach my kids where their food comes from. My next mission is to find a local farm and not only have a place to buy food but I think it will be another great way to spend time with my family learning about all the things to see on a farm. Maybe some cute little fluff ball kittens could be found!

Since I am familiar to life with kids I have found this cute little shop that has kid approved finds. However I wont forget to mention that there are many organizing products too that mom can appreciate!

The shop owner has a powerful advantage in her creations, she is the mother of a young daughter who I'm sure is her inspiration. Her love of crafts is apparent in her work and whimsical ideas.

The Belle Fleur's Pa Jam Jam Shams are made with mom in mind. What mom isn't tired of repeating herself and having to ask to put away clothes! Well what kid wouldn't want to stash their Pj's in this cute little pillow and stylish for the bed of course! Come to think of it, I might even get her to make me one to avoid the lump of Pajamas I have under my pillow!

New to this shop is absolutely adorable dresses and I for one am always looking for clothes my kids can wear that are not found on multiple kids every time we go out! The material of this dress is so cute and sure to win many compliments. They are simple in design so no tugging to get them on and the cute oversize buttons are beautiful to look at, all the while Velcro is the fastener keeping dress in place. She has really understood that the faster and easier it goes on is key! Not to mention they are gorgeous on your cutie as they jump and play throughout their day! It is global and the internet allows us to connect everywhere and gives us the choice of where and what we want to buy. This is officially my first blog! I am excited to bring news, information, new products and just fun to my followers. I really believe that there is a vast amount of handmade products that are made by very talented individuals and they deserve to be discovered. Handmade is about someone's home, life and creativity. Handmade is personal, unique and in no way corporate! Which I think are many of the reasons people are paying attention and saying that they in turn deserve more. They deserve the personal attention you get from a small shop, the custom orders and knowing that they are helping someone else's dreams to be fulfilled. The shops are made and owned by people who love what they create and are waiting to share with people who love their products.

I am an Etsy shop owner myself and I will be showcasing some of my fellow Etsy shops. I started Etsy as a way to remain creative while living a busy life with a hard working husband and two beautiful young children. My sister also felt the creative drain and we decided to do this together as a team. There are many others like us and more starting all the time. I think its great to be able to be a part of a handmade network but also meet the people behind the amazing products.

A Handmade Revolution is about wanting and standing up for more! As a consumer more and more we are being reminded that its up to us to decide where our purchases come from. Handmade is not handmade by employees in another country with no connection to the founder of the company. It may even be made by someone closer to you than you even think!
